Scripps Dances 2024
Reflecting a variety of contemporary dance styles,听SCRIPPS DANCES 鈥�24听is the Dance Department鈥檚 annual spring concert of original works choreographed by students, faculty, and guests. This year鈥檚 program includes听顿谤颈惫别听choreographed by renowned artist Kyle Abraham in collaboration with听A.I.M听and made possible with support from the Marian and Charles Holmes Performing Arts Fund.听Scripps faculty member Ricky Medina鈥檚 newest Hip-hop creation听will take the stage. Dance Majors听Divya Ahuja, Sophie Kim, Loren Mello, Tierney O鈥橩eefe, and Destiny Rivera-Gomez will present their senior thesis research projects in choreography. Ahuja blends movement styles to explore the potential and tensions within abstraction; Kim, who will complete a dual thesis in Dance and Sociology, examines a special intimacy from girlhood听friendship;听Mello reimagines the femme fatale;听O鈥橩eefe鈥檚 鈥淚nfatuation” is a jazzy exploration of spectacle and desire; and Rivera-Gomez navigates the experience of tri-cultural identity through the relationship between a mother and daughter.听In addition, Senior Dance Minor Clara Spitz shares an听over-the-top portrait of dissociation in a performance-centric society听and Junior Dance Major Holand Dennis offers a fun and campy听outer space celebration.
