Spring Break Travel Update

With spring break approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to reinforce to all members of our campus community the importance of staying informed about the spread of Coronavirus. We are strongly recommending that our students, faculty, and staff exercise caution about their travel choices during spring break and beyond.

The College has been and will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation related to the Coronavirus. There are currently no known exposures to the Coronavirus at The Claremont Colleges. An emergency preparedness team representing all seven colleges has developed plans to respond to and mitigate the effect of Coronavirus on our campuses should it be detected here.

We encourage all members of our community to follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which provides guidance for international and domestic travel considerations and safety precautions. Please check for any new travel restriction updates before departing the United States. The  and the  are the best resources for the latest information. The situation is evolving quickly, and changes frequently, so please stay informed, both about travel implications and the best practices for staying healthy.

  • Please stay actively alert to changes and developments that may affect your plans.
  • Monitor travel advisories daily, including potential restrictions on border crossings or closed borders. Countries you visit may decide to implement travel restrictions with very little notice, which may impair your ability to return to campus.
  • Airlines may cancel/limit flights in or out of a country or region.
  • Additional quarantine measures may be applied by the U.S., other countries, or the colleges.
  • Re-entry to the U.S. could be restricted.
  • Prior to your return to campus, CDC guidelines or the colleges may require you to self-isolate depending on your travel.
  • International students and foreign nationals should check their immigration documents before leaving the U.S. If you are unable to return to the U.S., your visa status may be affected.

The Claremont Colleges continue to assess risk based on the number of cases, community spread, public health infrastructure, as well as other factors. The  website is The Claremont Colleges’ centralized source for the latest information from the most authoritative, reliable sources.

Sincerely,

Lara Tiedens
President
