A Quick Bite of Art: Lunchtime Series of Talks Serves Up Micro-Lessons in Ceramics

Art Bites

This spring, Meher McArthur, Scripps’ Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler Curator of Academic Programs and Collections, is continuing her Quick Bite of Art lunchtime lecture series. For five consecutive Wednesdays, beginning February 6, the 15-minute talks in the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery will focus on a single work of ceramics from the College’s 2,000-object ceramics collection. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to these bite-sized lectures, during which McArthur will demonstrate how ceramics have not only served as vessels for food and drink, but also as containers of cultural information, documenting social traditions, scientific technology, religious beliefs, and economic trends. The series is presented in conjunction with the Williamson Gallery’s 75th Ceramic Annual Exhibition, on view from January 26 until April 7.
