In the Media: Susan D. Anderson ’75 Explores California’s Connection to Juneteenth in Los Angeles Times

In an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times, Susan D. Anderson ’75 California’s connection to Juneteenth, which marks the date in 1865 that the end of slavery was officially proclaimed. “Juneteenth isn鈥檛 a Black holiday, it鈥檚 an American holiday鈥攁nd now a federal holiday after Congress voted overwhelmingly this week to make it one and President Biden signed the bill into law Thursday,” Anderson writes. “A national observance will remind all Americans to contemplate the meaning of emancipation and shine a light on racial injustice.” Anderson, history curator and program manager at the California African American Museum, spoke at Scripps Presents this spring to discuss her upcoming book, African Americans and the California Dream.
