This elective, off-campus nursing course is offered during the January winter-intensive period. The goals of the course are to explore a culture which differs from current the United States mainstream, to develop understanding of how health is defined and experienced in this culture, to understand the intersections of culture, health and faith among the Native American Navajo and Zuni cultures and in contrast to current mainstream western worldview.聽
Students will visit and engage in service delivery at several healthcare facilities and community programs in the host community to promote understanding of the roles of healthcare providers in another culture. Outdoor excursions will include hiking, mountain biking, and native community activities.
