What is Scripps Scrapps?
Scripps Scrapps is a program that seeks to increase social equity, decrease waste, and promote reuse of secondhand items.
Each year, we hire about 10 Scripps Scrapps student workers to help organize, sort, and store donations.
At the beginning of Fall semester, we host a 3-day sale next to GJW. The first day of the sale takes place during freshman move-in.
How Do I Participate?

What Items Do We Accept?
At the end of Spring semester, students can donate their unwanted dorm items in good condition. at collection spots located inside the residence halls.
We only take donations on our list of acceptable items and in good condition – things that people would want to buy!
We generally accept:
- Mini fridges
- Lamps
- Storage and organizers
- Small furniture (e.g. shelves, end tables)
- Clean rugs and yoga mats
- Curtains
- Appliances (fans, heaters, vacuums, hair dryers, hair straighteners, etc)
- Kitchenware (washed, in good condition)
- Clothes hangers (must be taped together and bundled)
We do NOT accept:
- Food
- Clothing or shoes
- Used bedding
- Pillows
- Foam mattress toppers
- Hygiene products, toiletries, etc.
- Masks
- Miscellaneous junk (e.g. loose pens, used notebooks, cables, etc.)
- Green boxes, bowls, plates, etc. Please return these to the dining hall!

**We highly encourage calling ahead to check if they are accepting donations before dropping things off.
Donate towels, pet supplies, and cleaning items:

If you have clothes/textiles that cannot be donated or sold, recycle them here:
- Fordays (clothing)
- and they will recycle textiles into things like insulation, rugs, or cleaning materials.

What are the Benefits?
This program diverts over three tons of waste from the landfill each year. 100% of proceeds from the Fall sale go directly towards paying Scripps Scrapps student workers and sustaining the program.
